The Onalaska High School Future Business Leaders of America chapter collected more than 177 items for the Lewis County Animal Shelter during a recent drive.

The Animal Donation Drive included dropoff locations at Brenda's Country Market, Annie's Market and the Salkum Store. It ran during a three-week period in February and March.

Mackinzie Craney headed up the campaign as coordinator for the animal drive and others volunteered, including Marissa Rodriguez, Emma Briggs, Addy Ashley, David Locklin, Carmen Ibarra, Rylan McGraw, Ariana Parker, Precious Bordeau, Chloe Johnston-Lester and Lexi Allebaugh.

“The staff at Lewis County Animal Shelter is extremely appreciative of the overwhelming amount of dog and cat food, toys, bowls, grooming supplies, horse and chicken feed, and many other donated items,” according to a press release from Onalaska High School Future Business Leaders of America. “Once the students unloaded all the items, they were able to view the dogs, cats, puppies and bunnies up for adoption.”

In the future, students will be able to volunteer their community service hours at the Lewis County Animal Shelter once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

All students as part of their graduation need to complete their community service hours by their senior year with an organization, according to the press release.

After completing their field trip to the Lewis County Animal Shelter April 16, many are eager to participate and help out with the service provided to the public there, according to Onalaska High School Future Business Leaders of America.
