Onalaska Man Suffers Burns After Attempting to Rescue Dog From House Fire

An Onalaska man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with second-degree burns from a mobile home fire Monday night.

Randy King reportedly awoke to a house full of smoke in the early hours of the morning on March 30. Without shoes and still in pajamas, King was able to wake his son and exit the burning structure — but King went back inside to search for his dog, Chewy.

According to Facebook posts from King's family, he suffered burns on his feet, the top of his head, and on his back from his neck down to his waist. His son suffered some smoke inhalation and minor burns on his arms and head.

King’s daughter later reported that the dog was later located and was uninjured.

Lewis County Fire Districts 1, 5 and 8 responded to the incident at 1:35 a.m. The cause of the fire, which completely destroyed the house, is under investigation.

The family has started a GoFundMe page asking for donations to help fund King’s medical expenses and help his family to financially recover from the complete loss of their Onalaska home.
