Behind early offense and a stout performance from sophomore Braelyn Babb in the circle, the Loggers secured their spot in the double elimination portion of the Class 2B District 4 tournament with a 7-2 victory over Ilwaco on Monday night in Montesano.
When the quarterfinals get underway on Wednesday at Fort Borst Park, Onalaska (8-10) faces league champ Adna as the only matchup between two C2BL teams.
“It is all just a game of (softball). It is a ball, a bat and a glove,” Loggers head coach Rich Teitzel said. “The team that hits the ball and the team with the less errors can walk away winning any game.”
Onalaska plated two runs apiece in the first and third innings and added insurance tallies in the fourth and seventh. Randi Haight, Abby Ellis and Rylee Torres each recorded two hits. Babb held Ilwaco to just two runs in the third and struck out nine batters.
“I think she pitched better today than in league games,” Teitzel said. “She was focused. Very proud of her.”
