Packwood subarea plan decision postponed to Jan. 2

After a public hearing on the Packwood subarea plan, Lewis County commissioners Tuesday opted to postpone deliberation and decision-making until Jan. 2 at 10 a.m.

The plan is described by Lewis County Senior Long-Range Planner Mindy Brooks as a “compass” for development and growth in Packwood, the county’s easternmost community.

Because the town is unincorporated, there is no city council to develop specific zoning plans and design standards. The area has seen rapid growth and a booming tourism industry in recent years, which warranted policy changes for the downtown area, according to previous reporting by The Chronicle.

The plan gathered input from a more than 30-person collection of community stakeholders, public meetings, surveys and open house-style presentations over the last two years.

It can be found at lewiscountywa.gov under “Community Development” in the “Comp Plan & Development Regulation Amendments” tab.

The record for public testimony on the plan was closed on Tuesday. Information about the Jan. 2 meeting will be available on the commissioners’ website under “Agenda & Calendar,” including how to attend via Zoom, by Saturday, Dec. 30.
