Patana, Remund Power Bearcats Past Shelton

Elizabeth Patana and Olivia Remund each tallied one goal and one assist and W.F. West put Shelton away with a 3-1 road victory in 2A Evergreen Conference play Saturday afternoon.

Patana lit up the scoreboard in just the third minute off an assist from Remund, followed by Remund’s goal off a cross from Cam Sheets four minutes later to help the Bearcats jump out to a lightning-fast start.

“The girls started off really hot,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said.

The offensive outburst wouldn’t last as the Bearcats went silent for nearly 40 minutes. Though the intensity dropped, W.F. West kept the pressure on but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

After heading to the locker room with a 2-0 lead at the break, Shelton knocked in a header goal in the corner in the 43rd minute, which ended up being their only shot on frame for the day. The Bearcats would end up outshooting the Highclimbers 12-1.

Junior Cam Sheets gave W.F. West some breathing room by heading in a goal off an assist from Patana just two minutes later in the 45th to close out the scoring.

“We came out in a new formation today and we played really well in it,” Anderson said. “The midfield kept everything in our attacking half. Overall, real happy with the girls. It was a nice comeback after a tough loss to Tumwater.”

W.F. West improves to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, and hosts league foe Black Hills on Tuesday.
