Centralia native Deter Voetberg was sworn in Tuesday by Centralia Police Chief Stacy Denham as the city's newest police officer. A Centralia High School graduate, he wanted to become an officer "because he wanted to help the community that he was raised in and believes in," Denham said. He originally started his law enforcement career as a community service officer for the department. He graduated from police academy on Nov. 10, and now starts his field training. His father had the honor of pinning his badge.
