Piper Chalmers Captures Bowling State Championship

W.F. West junior Piper Chalmers bowled a 900 four-game series to capture the individual 1A/2A girls state bowling championship at Narrows Plaza Bowl at University Place on Friday.

Chalmers, who placed third in state as a freshman in 2020 — with bowling state being canceled in 2021 due to COVID — won by 62 pins over runner-up Rose Ugbinada of Fort Vancouver. 

Chalmers is the first W.F. West bowler to win an individual state title.

The Bearcats, who were the defending state champions after winning the title in 2020, placed third as a team on Friday with a total-pin score of 4,985

Bearcat junior Savannah Hawkins placed 16th with a 668 four-game series, while Clara Bunker was 25th with a 614 and Cami Aldrich placed 31st with a 602.  Also bowling for the Bearcats wasTyran Ozretich (322).



Black Hills won the team state championship with a total-pin score of 5,126.

Leading Black Hills was Kaitlyn Gwinn, who finished third with a 770, while teammates Hallie Stuart (738) and Zoey Theophilus (734) placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Kaylene Hall was 24th with a 622 and Dana Culley finished 35th with a 570.

Tumwater’s Hailey Hopkins was 17th with a 665 and Samathan Bluhm was 30th (603).
