Pirates Bats Come Alive in Win Over Riverhawks

With 12 hits across seven innings, the Adna softball team picked up a 12-5 win over Toledo Wednesday afternoon in a Central 2B League home game.

The Pirates played a full seven-inning contest for the first time since March 18, with every game since either ending by run-rule or due to rainout.

Ava Simms got the nod in the circle and tossed a complete game, striking out 11 and giving up five runs, with four earned, on six hits and three walks. The Pirate bats were led by the top of their order, with Danika Hallom going 2 for 4 with a run scored, two RBIs, and a home run, Brooklyn Loose going 3 for 4, and Karlee VonMoos going yard once again on a 3 for 5 performance with three runs scored.

The Riverhawks never quite went away, despite the lopsided score at times. Quyn Norberg hit a home run to score a pair of runs, and Abbie Marcil added another homer in the seventh to score two more runs against Simms. Mialeigh Jurica went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a double, as well.

Bethany Bowen got the start and pitched three innings, allowing six runs, with three earned, on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Peyton Holter pitched the final three innings, allowing six more runs with just two earned on five hits and two walks with a strikeout.

Adna takes on Rainier Thursday in a battle between undefeated league teams while Toledo heads to Napavine for a big league contest.
