Pirates Blank Ducks After Week Off

After just about a week off due to rescheduled and canceled contests, the Adna girls soccer team defeated Toutle Lake on the road Wednesday, 10-0.

The Pirates made short work of the Ducks, with Karlee VonMoos recording a hat trick, Gabby Solem adding a brace, and Lydia Tobin, Ava Humphrey, Bailey Naillon, Rocio Ruiz de Velasco Guillen, and Margarite Humphrey adding the rest of the scores on a busy night.

The Pirates outshot the Ducks, 42-0, in the win.

“We had a jumbled-up line up tonight but they played just as solidly as our previous lineups,” Pirates coach Patrick Richardson said. “We were able to dominate the field of play all game long, only giving up a couple possessions into our half of the field in each half. Our girls are seeing their shots start to fall and it’s nice having a lot of players who can score.”

Richardson also praised the Ducks, who played with 11 girls and are still rebuilding a program that has had turnout struggles over the years.

“Hats off to Toutle for playing for a full 80 minutes,” Richardson said. “I’ve been around this league since it started and it takes a lot for teams down on numbers to keep pushing through. But if you enjoy the game and everything it stands for, it doesn’t matter the score at the end of the night. We’ve been lucky in Adna to have a strong turnout with such good talent over the years so I have to give it to that Toutle coaching staff for their effort at keeping it going down there. It’s a tough thing to do for sure.”

The Pirates take on Raymond-South Bend at home on Monday for their first league contest at 7 p.m.
