Pirates Come Up Short Against Bulldogs in OT

Though the Adna girls basketball team came up just short of an upset of 1A Montesano, in a 59-53 overtime loss, Pirates coach Chris Bannish was pleased with how his team has come around before the holiday break.

The Pirates (4-4, 1-0 2B C2BL) battled the powerhouse Bulldogs — which has wins over multiple strong teams such as King’s already this year — trailing by just five at the half and completing a comeback to tie it up at the end of regulation at home.

A poor overtime period, when the Pirates were outscored 8-2, ultimately decided the game.

“I thought it would be tough for us to hang with them physically, but we found something,” Bannish said. “If they play the way they did today the rest of the season, we’ll be in good shape.”

Adna had three players score in double figures, with Brooklyn Loose leading the way at 16 points and four made threes, while Kaylin Todd scored 15 and Summer White had 14. That trio has really stepped up in the last week, per Bannish.

The Pirates will head into the holiday break with a .500 record, but has made big improvements over the course of the early season and will look to build some momentum at a tournament in Menlo, hosted by Willapa Valley. Adna plays next against Naselle on Dec. 29, and then will take on Valley the next day.
