Pirates Drop Doubleheader to Skyline, Bellevue

Posted

In its first action of the season, the Adna softball team dropped a doubleheader matchup with 4A Skyline, 5-0, and then with 3A Bellevue, 9-7, at Auburn Riverside Saturday night.

In the first game, the Pirates just couldn’t get anything going on the basepath, accumulating just four hits and getting shut out by Spartan pitcher Ryan Grace. The Spartans, in turn, got out ahead early and used a big fifth inning to separate. Ali Davis went 2 for 3 in the season-opener.

In the second game against Bellevue, it took three innings, but the Pirates finally got on the scoreboard, falling behind by five runs but coming back to score seven runs combined in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Natalie Loose hit a home run off of the Wolverine starter, and hit four of five for five RBI.

Pirate pitcher Ava Simms had eight strikeouts through three innings, but had four earned runs.

The Pirates will look to pick up their first win of the season against Castle Rock on Friday.
