Pirates Edge Bulldogs in PKs

Making the long drive south, the Adna girls soccer team picked up its first win in dramatic fashion Monday, defeating Stevenson in penalty kicks, 4-3, after a scoreless regulation and extra time.

The Pirates (1-1) and Bulldogs agreed to a penalty shootout to get practice in for both squads, rather than settling for the tie, and the road team came out on top after goals from Karlee VonMoos, Margarite Humphrey, Lydia Tobin, and Natalie Loose.

Pirates coach Patrick Richardson also credited Destiny Roller and Abby McAuley for strong play on the front line.

“Group is starting to click more offensively,” he said. “We had all quality looks at goal, we just need work on placement or power. We controlled time of possessions and were in their half of the field all but for a few moments. The building blocks are there and starting to fit together.”

The Pirates will have a short turnaround, playing against Toledo on the road Tuesday at 6 p.m.
