The Adna girls soccer team’s season came to an end in Sedro-Woolley on Wednesday, as the Pirates fell to Mount Vernon Christian 2-0 in a 2B State Round of 16 matchup.
“We played with great energy and team play,” Adna coach Patrick Richardson said. “We held our own … But it was just not quite to the level of last week.”
Mt. Vernon Christian’s Callie Russell scored both goals for the Hurricanes, one in each half, on uncontested shots with her dominant right foot.
It’s the first time that the Pirates have been shut out in nearly a month. They finish their season 11-8-1, but will return all but two seniors: Lydia Tobin and Lilly Wellander.
“They were so important to this group as leaders and will be missed," Richardson said. “I told them and the group that this was one of the closest groups of kids that I’ve worked with over the last 13 seasons.
“It’s hard to hit the end and not get back out there,” he continued. “But they’ve done something that hundreds of other teams don’t get to. That’s huge, and I am so proud of them for that.”
