Pirates Go Cold From Deep in Loss to Chief Leschi

Adna mounted a fourth-quarter comeback attempt with an 11-7 run in the final frame but came up short in a 53-50, non-league road loss to Chief Leschi on Thursday.

The loss snapped a six-game win streak for the Pirates (6-2), while keeping the Warriors perfect at 7-0.

Adna sophomore Braeden Salme led all scorers with 18 points, while Chase Collins added 11 and Lane Johnson chipped in nine.

The Pirates shot 37% from the field (18 of 49) and an uncharacteristic 2 for 16 from long range (13%). Chief Leschi was 20 for 53 from the field (38%) and hit 2 of 9 from deep.

Adna coach Luke Salme said he hopes this loss will help motivate his team has it heads into league play next week.

“Sometimes losing a non-league game at this point in the season is actually not such a bad thing,” Salme said.

Adna falls to 6-2 overall and travels to Kalama next for its first league matchup on Jan. 6.
