Pirates Overcome Another Slow Start Against Mules

Falling behind by double-digits for the second straight game, the Adna boys basketball team bounced back in the second quarter and did enough down the stretch to beat Wahkiakum on the road, 60-51.

The Pirates were led by Braeden Salme’s game-high 26 points, with Lane Johnson (13 points) being the only other Pirate in double figures. Coach Luke Salme said the pair came up huge down the stretch to secure the win.

“We showed a lot of grit a couple different times tonight,” Luke Salme said. “This is a huge league win on the road against another really good opponent. That is a team who can beat anyone in our district on a given night. We’ll take this win, for sure.”

The Mules rocketed out to a 24-12 lead after one quarter, but a 18-7 quarter in favor of the Pirates made it a close game at half, and the Pirates continued the barrage into the third quarter to take the lead and hold on to it from there.

The Pirates will close out their regular season against Stevenson having already secured a first round home district game on Saturday.
