The Adna volleyball team continued to roll on Tuesday night, as the Pirates left Mossyrock with a 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 25-13 win.

The Pirates had to make an adjustment due to an injury in warmups, and though they started slow as a result, it didn’t take long for them to find their groove.

“We rallied and played for each other,” Adna coach Wendie Dotson said. “Some players had to step into roles they weren’t accustomed to and rose to the occasion.”

Karsyn Freeman had a stellar performance, tallying 25 kills, 16 digs, two aces and two stuff blocks, while Danika Hallom added 13 kills and 12 digs. Gaby Guard tallied 41 assists, while Jaylee Humphrey logged 15 digs and McKenna Torrey added 14.

“It just solidified what the girls are capable of accomplishing when we work together and support each other,” Dotson said.

The Vikings had success in spurts, specifically in the second set, but they struggled to deal with the consistent speed of Freeman and the Pirates.

Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson was pleased with the overall performance, however, noting that Adna is one of the best 2B teams in the state.

“After matching up against them and taking a set, we’re very proud of what the girls can accomplish,” Nelson said. “There’s lots of good teams in this league, so you gotta be ready to play every single night … It makes you improve a lot. We’re excited for the challenge.”

Adyson Barrows tallied 10 digs and six kills, while Taylor Schwartz added 14 digs, including several “perfect passes” on serve receive. Delaney Marshall added nine assists and three aces, while Chesney Schultz tallied eight kills and three blocks and Erin Cournyer dished out 13 assists.

Mossyrock (3-2) has two non-league contests remaining, including a matchup at Napavine on Thursday, while Adna (5-0) will begin league play on Thursday at home against Toutle Lake.
