Adna exploded for a 14-0 run to start the game then went ice-cold shooting in the second and third quarters to get edged by Class 2A Black Hills, 60-57, in a non-league season opener for the Pirates on Thursday.
The Wolves were led by Simon Trujillo-Nysted’s game-high 22 points, while Andre Byoune scored 12, Luke Ellison had 11 and Johnnie Stallings contributed 10.
The Pirates, whose strength is in shooting, knocked down 12 3-pointers on the night, led by Braeden Salme’s 5 for 11 shooting from long range. Salme finished with a team-high 21 points.
Reigning all-area selection Chase Collins added 16 points for the Pirates and drilled 4 for 8 from beyond the arc. Eli Smith hit three 3-pointers to finish with 17 points.
Lane Johnson and Aaron Aselton each hauled in six rebounds for Adna.
The Pirates shot 36% (20 for 56) from the field, while the Wolves shot a blazing 47% (25 for 53).
Adna (0-1 overall) hosts Willapa Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Black Hills (1-1) hosts River Ridge on Monday.
