Pirates Rocket Past Comets at Jack Q. Pearson Holiday Classic

Adna jumped on Naselle early with a 16-2 run to start the game and never looked back, bashing the Comets for a 60-26 victory at the Jack Q. Pearson Holiday Classic at Willapa Valley High School in Menlo on Wednesday.

While senior point guard Kaylin Todd went off for 18 of her game-high 21 points in the first half, the Pirates’ defense used a vice-clamp defense to foil the Comets early and take a 32-11 lead going into the break.

“Our pressure bothered them,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “And Todd is really to come around like we know she can.”

It helped the Pirates were able to practice the past few days, unlike the Comets, and it showed as Naselle tired quickly and made no surge in the second half.

Karlee Von Moos added 16 points for Adna, while Brooklyn Loose chipped in eight and Faith Wellander had an all-around performance with six points, seven rebounds and a game-high nine steals.

The Pirates (5-4 overall) return to action at 3:30 p.m. Thursday when they take on tournament host Willapa Valley.
