Pirates Stymied in Home Contest Against Mules

Having a tough night from the floor, the 2B No. 7 Adna boys basketball team fell to No. 9 Wahkiakum on its home floor Wednesday night, 63-54, in Central 2B League play.

The Pirates shot an abysmal 20.7% from the floor, making just 12 shots as they couldn’t get anything to fall almost all night. After taking a 16-8 lead into the second quarter, the Mules strung together a 28-4 run in the middle quarters to build up a huge lead.

Adna would fight back in the fourth from the foul line, making 24 of 36 shots from the charity stripe opposed to the Mules’ five total attempts, but it wouldn’t be enough in a game with huge league implications.

“We got drilled by a team that was definitely better than us at both ends tonight,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “Momentum can be such a big thing in basketball, and it sure was tonight in the middle two quarters. We couldn’t get a stop, and then couldn’t make a shot.”

Braeden Salme led the Pirates with 21 points, and Eli Smith had 10 to round out double figure scorers. The Mules were led by Brodie Avalon’s 25 points and Kyler Sause’s 11.

The Pirates play Toledo on the road Friday in another league matchup.
