An allegedly impaired driver with a child inside her car hit and killed a pedestrian walking on the Mountain Highway Friday night, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:47 p.m. when a 26-year-old Tacoma woman was driving north on state Route 7 approaching 208th Street East, according to the WSP.

The woman's 1989 Honda Civic struck Tonja A. Johnson, 47, of Lakewood who was walking northbound in the road, according to the WSP.

The Honda left the road, entered a parking lot and struck a parked Ford E-450 vehicle. E-450 chassis can be converted into small buses and freight trucks.

A 5-year-old Spanaway girl in the Tacoma woman's car was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma. The driver was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

The driver was later arrested for suspicion of vehicular homicide, suspicion of driving under the influence and suspicion of child endangerment, according to the WSP.

The highway was blocked for nearly six hours as police investigated the scene.
