Prep football: Week 4 matchup between Winlock, Mossyrock canceled

Posted

Viewed as a reignited rivalry between the Winlock and Mossyrock High School football programs, their Week 4 contest is off the schedule.

Initially posted on Facebook and confirmed by Cardinals head coach Ernie Samples on Wednesday night, the game between the newly minted 11-man teams has been canceled for Friday night. It was scheduled to be played at Mossyrock.

Samples stated it was a combo of “injuries and grades” as to why Winlock is unable to field enough varsity players to compete. Both teams entered the game at 0-3.

"It is disappointing," Samples said. "The guys were not suprised.  It (is) easy to tell when there's 14 guys at practice and nine of them are eligible."

Vikings head coach Eric Ollikainen stated he doesn’t think they will be able to find an opponent in time on short notice.

Winlock is slated to host Rainier next Friday in a C2BL East matchup. As for future games on the Cardinals’ schedule, Samples said “Got to take (it) week-to-week.”
