Prep Soccer: Torres Hat-trick Powers Rochester to Win over Tenino

ROCHESTER—Jesus Torres notched a hat-trick and added three assists, leading Rochester to an 8-0 win over Tenino here Tuesday in 1A Evergreen League action.

Torres scored twice in the first 14 minutes before assisting on a 16th minute goal by Colton Kilmer, as the Warriors put the game out of reach early.

“I thought Torres did a good job distributing the ball,” Rochester coach Brian Ziese said. “The second half they came out and executed, and got some crosses in the box.”

Kevin McLernan added a goal in the 32nd minute as Rochester went up 4-0 at halftime.

Torres assisted on another Kilmer goal in the 42nd minute, before completing his hat-trick in the 48th. Nick Taylor (62nd minute) and Jackson Peltier (75th) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.

Rochester (3-5, 3-3) plays at Forks on Thursday, while Tenino’s (1-6, 0-6) next game is at home against Elma.

Tumwater Takes Down W.F. West 1-0

CHEHALIS — Tumwater’s Austin Mikesh scored the lone goal in the 16th minute to propel the Thunderbirds to a 1-0 win in 2A Evergreen League action here on Tuesday.

“We played a good game, they put everything they had into the game,” W.F. West coach Tino Sanchez said. “We did everything we wanted, I thought they really improved from the loss to Black Hills.”

Less than a minute into the game, W.F. West had a chance to score with an open net, but missed the shot. Mikesh scored 15 minutes later, with the ball deflecting off a W.F. West defender for the lone tally of the game.

“We’re starting to figure out we need to be as physical as other teams,” Sanchez said. “That was a good chance to get them on their heels, I was happy with the boys.”

Tumwater had the shot advantage in the game 10-6, with W.F. West goalkeeper Daniel Ford stopping nine shots in the loss.

The Bearcats (3-6, 0-2) take on Black Hills in a league game on Thursday in Tumwater.



United Demolishes Seton Catholic 8-1

CAMAS — United scored in the first minute to take the lead and never looked back, defeating Seton Catholic 8-1 in a 1A Trico League game here on Tuesday.

Gustavo Barragan scored in the first minute for an early United lead. Adair Garibay added a goal in the 6th minute with an assist from Nicholas Patching. Andreas Malunat scored in the 12th minute with an assist from Barragan for a 3-0 lead. Garibay scored in the 29th minute, with an assist from Barragan, followed by a goal on a penalty kick for the hat trick, and to put United ahead 5-0 at halftime.

Henry Demsky scored in the 48th minute to get Seton Catholic on the board. Patching pushed the advantage back to five goals with a tally in the 50th minute with an assist by Barragan. Garibay netted his fourth of the game in the 58th minute, and the scoring was capped off by Santos Balbueno in the 79th minute, assisted by Daniel Guijosa.

“They’re connecting well, they have really good ball movement and they find the seams and gaps in the defense,” United coach Horst Malunat said. “It was a good game, I think we do better on turf because we get the ball moving fast and it helps our game a bit.”

United (7-0-1, 4-0-1) plays undefeated White Salmon in a big 1A Trico league game on Thursday in Winlock.

Wolves Hold Off Centralia 3-2

LACEY — The Tigers rallied in the second half, but couldn’t overcome Black Hills’ three-goal head start in a 3-2 Evergreen 2A Conference boys soccer loss Tuesday night.

Black Hills led 3-0 by the 54th minute on goals from Gabe Ayala, Bekele Dowty and Yitagesu Dowty.

Laurence Silva scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute, and broke through the defense eight minutes later to make it a one-goal game.

“It was a pretty aggressively played match,” Centralia coach Phil Strodemier said. “Not foul-type aggressive, but just a lot of back and forth. It was a good match.”

The Tigers (4-4) welcomed back three players who had been out with injuries, including standout midfielder Binod Sapkota, and will return another for Thursday night’s game at home against Tumwater.

Goalie Jesse Vazquez had another solid game in the net, Strodemier added.
