Rochester erupted for 21 hits and Staysha Fluetsch and Maddie Bates each belted two home runs a piece as the Warriors held off Centralia for a 17-12 victory at Fort Borst Park Friday.
Fluetsch hit a solo homer and a three-run blast, while Bates smashed home runs in consecutive at-bats as Rochester snapped their three-game losing streak against a red-hot Centralia team that had won three of its last four.
“That was kind of the tipping point,” Centralia coach David Orr said of Rochester’s four home runs.
Fluetsch finished with six RBI and three runs scored, while Bates scored two runs and drove in two more. Sophomore Kaylee Demers collected two hits, two RBI and scored a run. Sophomore Kassidy Byrd smacked four hits, scored twice and added an RBI.
“Definitely did some damage,” Rochester coach Tiffany Garcia said. “Everybody was hitting. It was a lot of fun. We got a lot of players in. Fourteen total.”
Kaylei Clark struck out two batters in two innings on the mound for Rochester, while Sadie Knutson pitched the final five innings and fanned five. Each allowed four earned runs.
Centralia was led offensively by leadoff hitter Ella Orr, who was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs. Junior Jadyn Hawley also went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs.
Mikayla Chavez was 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and an RBI, while Gracie Schofield drove in two runs. The Tigers tallied 13 total hits as a team.
“Our best defense is our offense,” Orr said. “My girls are scrappy. They fight to the end.”
Sophomore pitcher Peyton Smith struck out one in 6.0 innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 18 hits.
Centralia’s (3-8) two-game win streak comes to an end and the Tigers host undefeated W.F. West (10-0) on Monday.
Rochester improves to 8-4 and hosts Aberdeen on Monday.
Kamy Dacus fanned 11 batters as the Bearcats exploded for 16 hits offensively in a 14-3 road victory over Aberdeen Friday to secure the 2A Evergreen Conference title.
“It's nice to have that in hand,” W.F. West coach Caty Lieseke said. “It was a good day out here. We made some adjustments after the first inning.”
Brielle Etter led the Bearcats offensively while going 4-for-6 with two RBI, while Dacus was 3-for-5 with three RBI. Saige Brindle was 2-for-4 and Savannah Hawkins was 4-for-5.
W.F. West improves to 10-0 overall and travels to Centralia on Monday. The Bearcats earn a first-round bye at districts that will be played at Rec Park in Chehalis.
Emily Baxter struck out seven and Janessa Sample lashed a pair of hits, including a double, with an RBI as the Tenino Beavers eased past the Elma Eagles 7-2 in the backend of a doubleheader on Friday in Elma. The Beavers won the opener 8-4.
Tenino secures the No. 2 seed heading into the district tournament, where the Beavers will face La Center at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in Elma.
“We played pretty well,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “It feels good. The girls worked hard and I’m proud of where we finished up. Their hard work showed.”
Kayla Feltus was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Courtney Backman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double.
Baxter was dominant in the circle. In addition to her seven Ks, she spread out nine hits and two runs, both unearned, over the seven frames. She threw 75% strikes and, unsurprisingly, walked none.
Tenino (7-6) finishes its regular season at Castle Rock on Monday at 4 p.m.
Bailey Elwell had two hits and an RBI as Yelm’s JV squad topped Rainier 9-1 on Friday in Yelm.
Brooklyn Swenson had a run and a hit for the Mountaineers in the loss.
Rainier (6-3) will visit Raymond in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Hailey Brooks and Bailey Tofaeono each smashed home runs and Mossyrock ran away with a 20-9 win over Morton-White Pass in non-league action Friday in Randle.
The Vikings tallied 14 total hits at the plate, while Jolee Hadaller and Gracie May West combined for five strikeouts in the circle.
MWP collected 11 hits, led by Shelby Karnes, Kylie Davis and Emery Hampton’s two hits a piece. Chloee Justice also had a double for MWP.
Jaiden Linder pitched 1.2 innings for the Timberwolves, striking out one, while Justice threw 6.1 innings of relief, striking out six.
MWP takes on Ilwaco in a district pigtail game at 2 p.m. in Onalaska. The winner faces the Loggers in the opening round of the district tournament.
Mossyrock travels to Montesano for the 1B District IV tournament for a 10 a.m. matchup
