HOQUIAM — A trio of Warriors finished first here Saturday at Hoquiam’s Grizzly Alumni Invitational wrestling tournament.
Dailin Schlecht won the 126-pound championship, and was beating North Beach’s Garrett Armbruster 9-1 in the finals before the match ended with an injury default.
Jayden Lancaster won the 152 title, beating Hoquiam’s Malaki Eaton, 6-1, in the finals.
“Jayden does what he does,” Rochester coach Jason Dick said. “Jayden wins tournaments and that’s what he did.”
Elijah Spitzer added a title at 285, pinning Montesano’s Kenny Koonrad in 3:09 in the finals. The Warriors finished fourth as a team.
“The kids wrestled well,” Dick said. “They’ve been wrestling tough all year. We don’t have the largest team but we’re building.”
Riley Cohron added a second-place finish at 145, falling to Montesano’s Ty Eckerson 5-4 in the finals, and Grayson Patterson — a first-year wrestler — finished third at 120.
Rochester wrestles at Black Hills in an Evergreen 2A Conference dual match on Wednesday.
SULTAN — A quartet of Centralia wrestlers won their brackets here Saturday at the Sky Valley Invitational tournament.
Juan Gaspar, Eddie Matias, Justin Lake and Caleb Hilton all topped the podium for the Tigers.
Gaspar, at 120 pounds, beat Sultan’s Joshua Verheul with a 12-2 major decision. Matias, at 132, beat Cashmere’s Aaron Guerrero with a 4-2 sudden victory in overtime, and at 152 Lake picked up an injury default win over Granite Falls’ Mason McBride.
Hilton, at 182, pinned Monroe’s Michael Pygott in 1:39.
The Tigers finished third as a team.
“I was really happy with the finals,” Centralia coach Scott Phillips said. “We were four for four there, so that was nice.”
Gaspar, he added, was impressive.
“He was very aggressive and scored a lot of points, so that was nice to see,” Phillips pointed out.
Alex Hicks-Avron (145), Austin Lucht (195), Mike Myer (285), and Dominic Hicks-Avron (106) all finished co-fifth in Sultan.
Centralia wrestles in an EvCo match in Tumwater on Wednesday.
TENINO — Adna’s Tristan Ridley and Tenino’s Robby Marti each won championships here Saturday at the first-ever Beaver Bash wrestling tournament.
Ridley’s title was his first of the year, and came in the 145-pound bracket.
“It was awesome to see the way Tristan wrestled today,” Adna coach Craig Ferrier said. “He wrestled hard from whistle to whistle and was in constant motion the entire match.”
Marti, a junior, won the 220-pound bracket, and teammate Austin Hohner was second at 132. Kysen Knox was third at 145 for the Beavers, while Joey Compher (126) and Randall Marti (160) were each fourth.
Adna’s Lucas Ashley, a senior and defending state champion, suffered his first loss of the year — to Dylan Tracer from Port Townsend — by a 9-7 margin and finished second at 182.
Napavine’s Grant Bennett (195) went 2-1 to finish third.
Napavine wrestles in Onalaska’s mix and match meet on Monday, and hosts the Napavine Tigers Classic on Saturday. Adna wrestles in a 2B league meet in Ocosta on Thursday and in Rainier’s Sgt. Justin Norton Memorial on Saturday.
Tenino wrestles in Hoquiam on Thursday.
