The Centralia Prevention Coalition will host a “drug take-back” event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Centralia Middle School to encourage community members to safely dispose of unused and expired medication.

The group will accept any prescription and over-the-counter medications for disposal, according to a news release from the Centralia Prevention Coalition.

“Community members can help prevent drug misuse and overdose deaths by dropping off unused, outdated and unwanted prescription medicines for safe disposal,” the news release reads. “According to the National Institute on Drug Use, 20% of teens and young adults have used prescription medications not prescribed to them … Safely disposing of medications helps prevent misuse by a friend, family member or other home visitor, and reduces the risk of deadly overdose.”

Free Naloxone (Narcan), medication lock boxes, snacks and refreshments will be distributed to attendees at the event. Flu shots and COVID-19 shots will also be available for attendees. Community service providers will be available to answer any questions about topics including mental health and substance use.

KAYO 96.9FM and KGY 95.3FM radio stations will be giving away prizes, including free Seahawks tickets and a vacation to Ocean Shores.
