The first baby of 2025 born at Providence Centralia Hospital waited until the second day of the year to come into the world.
Emberley Grace Sutherland was born at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.
The second daughter of Sara and Kenneth Sutherland weighed 8 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21.25 inches long.
The couple, who have known each other since meeting at Mossyrock Elementary, have been married for six years.
Kenneth came up with the name for the baby.
“It just kinda came to me,” he said.
“And we both really liked it,” added Sara.
Emberley was visited by her older sister, Ensley, 5, during her time at the hospital. It was a smooth pregnancy and delivery for mom and baby. They spent the holidays and home, taking it easy, as the original due date was Jan. 3.
“We figured if it was going to happen, it would happen, so we didn’t do much during the holidays,” Sara said.
Emberley was brought into the world by Dr. Elisaha Mvundura, OB/GYN, at Providence Centralia Women’s Center. The Sutherlands were given a gift basket by the caregivers at Providence Centralia for the first baby of the year.
There were 632 babies born at Providence Centralia in 2024; similar to numbers in the past several years: 651 in 2023; 667 in 2022; 637 in 2021; and 685 in 2020.
