Paced by 13 hits and plenty of offense, the Rainier softball team defeated Mossyrock in a non-league contest in East Lewis County, 11-3, Tuesday afternoon.
The Mountaineers built up a big lead early, scoring five runs in the opening innings to take a 5-1 lead they would never relinquish. Tack on two more in the fourth, and a four-spot in the seventh to seal it, and Rainier walked away victors again in another non-league win.
Madison Mounts had a strong day at the plate, going 4 for 5 with three runs scored, and three RBIs with a triple and a double. Keira Anderson went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs with a pair of doubles, and Brooklynn Swenson went 2 for 3 with a triple to round out a strong day.
In the circle, Ryleigh Cruse threw a complete game, allowing just two hits and three runs — with none earned — with 10 strikeouts and just two walks.
Mossyrock’s hits came from Erin Cournyer on a triple and Taylor Schwartz, who also scored a run.
Cournyer also racked up strikeouts, fanning 12 batters despite a somewhat lopsided scoring total.
The Vikings will hope to rebound against Naselle on the road in a big league battle while the Mountaineers take on Raymond-South Bend at home Thursday.
