Rainier Rips Off Seventh-Straight Victory

Posted

In its first game since Dec. 21, Rainier started right where it left off, shellacking Northwest Christian (Lacey) 64-42 on the road Monday for its seventh-straight win of the season.

The Mountaineers, led by senior Ian Sprouffske’s game-high 23 points Monday, improved to 7-1 overall and have not lost since their season opener to Tenino on Dec. 1.

“It was nice to get back out there after quite a layoff, which included a few postponed games over the break,” Rainier coach Ben Sheaffer said.

Ten Mountaineers in total scored on the night, including Jake Meldrum’s 14, Logan Bowers’ eight and Thomas Ronne’s seven.

The Mountaineers hit six 3-pointers as a team and hauled in 32 total rebounds. They turned it over 10 times and shot 4 of 10 from the charity stripe.

“It was cool to see everyone contribute tonight,” Sheaffer said. “With that said, we head into the heart of our league schedule and we have to get better on both ends. Fortunately, Ian was able to get going from deep and our bench provided a nice spark offensively.”

Rainier (7-1) faces league foe Napavine at 7 p.m. on the road Tuesday in a Central 2B League battle.
