Rainier Takes Second in Pierce County Meet

The Rainier wrestling team didn’t come away with any champions at the Cougar Clash, hosted by Cascade Christian in Puyallup, on Saturday, but racked up enough points with high finishes to take second out of the 12 teams on the mat.

Levi Swann (138) and Dorien Cano (170) took home second-place finishes to lead the Mountaineers, who were the only 2B squad at the event.

Jayden Alagarbes (120), Zander Peck (160), Matthew Kenney (220), and Ryder Cruse (285) all came away with third-place outings; Cruse’s loss was his first of the season, coming in the semifinals to Emerald Ridge’s Jesse Mains, who went on to win the class title.

Conner Mounts (126), Connor Power (145), and Rudy Garcia (182) finished fourth, with Power and Garcia both ripping off three straight wins after dropping their second matches of the day.

Rainier will get a Central 2B League dual meet on the road at Wahkiakum on Wednesday, then come back north to host the Sgt. Justin Norton Memorial on Saturday.
