After taking over as the Chehalis Fire Department chief in June 2020 and overseeing the construction of the city’s interim fire station, Tedd Hendershot has retired again.

He was honored by the Chehalis City Council during its meeting Monday night. 

“Thank you for your service to the Chehalis Fire Department, and willingness to extend your tenure to provide stability during the COVID-19 pandemic and construction of the interim fire station,” Mayor Tony Ketchum said. “The city recognizes and appreciates your leadership during a very challenging time and wishes you all the best as you transition back into retirement.” 

Hendershot had already retired prior to 2020 after spending 42 years as a volunteer firefighter and firefighter with both the Littlerock area and McLane/Black Lake fire departments in Thurston County, according to previous reporting by The Chronicle. 

The City of Chehalis asked him to serve as its interim fire chief following Ken Cardinale’s departure.

“It kept me pretty busy and it was an honor to serve the city. I was blessed with all of your support, and patience, especially (from City Manager) Jill (Anderson) during my tenure, so again, thank you,” Hendershot said.   

Adam Fulbright has been hired as the new Chehalis fire chief. He will take over full-time duties effective May 15.
