The Toledo girls basketball team jumped out to a big lead midway through the night and held on to win Friday, beating Onalaska 49-39 on the road in both teams’ Central 2B League openers.

Ryah Stanley led all scorers with 16, while Toledo also got 12 from Ellie Fallon and nine from Kailea Lairson.

The Riverhawks (4-0, 1-0 C2BL) trailed by a point after a quarter but bounced ahead with a 21-11 run in the second, and led by 14 after the third.

Onalaska came back to make it a five-point game late, but couldn’t get any closer.

“Turnovers were a problem for us again,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “Toledo plays aggressive defense and we didn’t take care of the ball in the third quarter especially.”

Emalie Jacoby led the Loggers (2-2, 0-1 C2BL) with 15 points, and Jaycee Kinsman and Kiley Talley both had seven.

Toledo will host Mount Vernon Christian in a non-league game Saturday, then face Adna on Monday. Onalaska will be off until Wednesday, when it goes to Wahkiakum.
