Caiden Schultz struck out eight batters and Toledo was able to fend off Napavine for a 4-3 road victory in Central 2B League play on Thursday.

The Riverhawks tallied 11 hits on the day, led by multi-hit days from Conor Gilreath (2-4), Carson Gould (2-4, two runs) and Mason Miller (2-3).

Schultz kept the Tigers off-balance, striking out eight while allowing three earned runs on four walks and six hits.

“The Schultz kid has a good arm,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said. “I thought he threw really well.”

Tiger senior Gavin Parker squared off with Schultz on the mound, striking out three and allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk in a complete-game outing.

“Gavin threw really well for us,” Demarest said. “It’s unfortunate he had to come out of it with a loss.”

Napavine’s hits at the plate came from Ashton Demarest (1-3), Parker (1-2), Austin Chapman (1-3), Ashtin Landry (1-2), Jack Nelson (1-3) and Scott Burdick (2-3).

“Our kids battled,” Demarest said. “We gave up three unearned runs early and didn’t make a few plays that we should have. We tried to climb out of it but came up short.”

Napavine heads to Wahkiakum for a doubleheader on Monday. Toledo hosts Kalama in a doubleheader on Monday.
