A barrage of runs in the second inning of its first win against Castle Rock was the key early, but the second game was far from easy, with the Toledo baseball team squeaking past the Rockets, 2-1, after a 20-3 demolition in the doubleheader opener Friday afternoon.

In the first game, a 20-3 win, the Riverhawks blitzed the Rockets in the second inning, scoring 14 runs to put away the road team easily in five innings.

Conor Gilreath started the day on the mound, and made the most of his appearances at the plate, logging four RBIs on a 3 for 4 performance in the first game, to go along with two innings pitched and four strikeouts with no earned runs. Zane Ranney also got in on the scoring action, knocking in two RBIs and scoring two runs himself.

The second game was much closer, with the Riverhawks putting both of their runs on the board in the second inning to pull out a narrow, 2-1, non-league win in five innings.

Ryker Sorenson and Kaven Winters pitched on the mound, with Sorenson allowing the one earned run with three punchouts, while Winters came in to strike out four, walk two, and allow just one hit in two innings of work.

At the plate, Caiden Schultz went 1 for 2 and knocked in a run to lead the Riverhawks.

Toledo, now 7-2, and unbeaten in league play, will take on Rainier next in another doubleheader.
