Riverhawks Take Opener Against 1A Wildcats

Putting up runs in each of the five innings played, the Toledo softball team run-ruled 1A La Center Friday evening, 16-6, in its season opener at home. 

The Riverhawks brought six runs across home plate in the first three innings, and dropped 10 more in the game’s final two to walk out winners in their home opener against a higher-classified Wildcat squad. 

Mialeigh Jurica went 2 for 4 with a team-high 3 RBIs and a run scored, Bethany Bowen went 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs, Abbie Marcil added a 2 for 4 line with a run scored and two RBIs, and Candace Clark went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs to lead the way for the Riverhawks. 

In the circle, Bowen threw four innings, giving up three hits and two runs, with just one earned, with eight punchouts and just one walk. Payten Holter stepped in to pitch the final inning and gave up five hits and four runs, but with none earned. 

Toledo (1-0) takes on Raymond-South Bend in its next contest on Thursday at home next week.
