Riverhawks top Seagulls in opening round

The Toledo boys basketball team came away with a well-deserved win on Saturday, topping Raymond 60-49 in the first round of the 2B District 4 Tournament.

Toledo (14-8, 6-7 C2BL) went ahead by eight in the first quarter, but the Seagulls continued to chip away in the second and third quarter. Raymond momentarily took the lead in the third, but the Riverhawks responded quickly to regain the lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth was Toledo’s best offensive quarter of the game, as they scored 20 points to pull away for the double-digit win.

Toledo coach Grady Fallon was impressed with the team’s balance scoring the basket, as all five starters either hit or just missed double-figures.

Rogan Stanley led the way with 15, while Trevin Gale tallied 13 and Kaven Winters scored 11. Cooper Fallon and Adam Kruger added nine each.

“They’re the guys that carry a lot of the load,” Fallon said. “We have a pretty unselfish group.”

Kruger, Gale, and Eli Weeks also performed well on the defensive end, as they took turns defending Christopher Quintana, Raymond’s leading scorer.

Toledo will take on Wahkiakum in the district quarterfinals on Wednesday at W.F. West.
