Riverhawks Weather Early Storm, Down Chinooks at Home

Fending off an early 3-point barrage from Kalama, the Toledo boys basketball team’s steady diet of scoring was enough to beat down the Chinooks in a 64-46 win Tuesday night at home.

The Riverhawks had four players score in double figures, and three more players approach double-digit rebounds in another well-rounded night across the board.

Kaven Winters had 12 points and nine rebounds, Cooper Fallon had 11 points and eight rebounds, Conner Olmstead scored a team-high 16 points, Rogan Stanley added 14, and Trevin Gale had seven rebounds to lead the way for the Riverhawks.

That steady effort was enough to overcome five first quarter 3-pointers from the Chinooks, who came out of the gates red-hot.

“It was a pretty solid win,” Riverhawks coach Grady Fallon said. “The first quarter was tight. They knocked down some shots, some bankers, it was good defense on our part but we can’t give those shots off. We’re lucky we had a lead.”

Fallon also praised the effort of Geoffrey Glass, who scored four points to the delight of the crowd each time he cut for an open basket.

“He brings energy,” Fallon said. “He’s a crowd favorite, he plays as hard as he can. Someone gets a high post and drops it into him, and the whole crowd cheers. He’s a fun guy to have, the whole crowd is rooting for him and he brings it every game.”

Toledo takes on Onalaska next on Thursday on the road. It will be the first time former Toledo star and all-time leader in 3-pointers, Brent Wood, coaches against his former high school as the Loggers’ hoops coach.
