Fueled by stout pitching performances from Ethan Rodriguez and Colton Weiss, the Warriors secured a pair of five-inning victories over the Grizzlies, 12-1 and 10-0, on Friday night in a Class 1A Evergreen League doubleheader at Hoquaim.
In the span of three days, Rochester (4-4, 3-3 Evergreen) outscored Hoquiam 35-4 to sweep the league series. Rodriguez struck out nine in the opener and Weiss fanned eight in the nightcap, both working around five walks each.
In Game 1, the Warriors turned the game on its head with a four-run second and tacked on five more in the fifth. They registered more walks (11) than hits (six) against a trio of Hoquiam pitchers. Rodriguez drove in three runs while Weiss and Tayden Martin each recorded two RBIs.
No. 9 hitter Simon Barth finished the doubleheader with six runs batted in after a two-hit Game 2 that featured a double for Rochester. Another five-spot in the fifth doubled its lead and the offense followed with 12 hits.
Kole Smith scored three times and swiped three bases in the nightcap plus Weiss and Wyatt Dahl registered two hits. The Warriors return to the field on April 12 against Washougal.
