The Rochester boys basketball team’s league season started with a loss on Friday, as the Warriors fell to Elma 62-29.
The Warriors put up just six points in both the first and second quarters, falling behind by 17 entering halftime.
“They did a great job of packing the paint and forcing us to shoot threes,” Rochester coach Caleb Sells said. “And we weren’t able to connect enough.”
The Rochester offense was able to put a few more points on the board in the second half, but Elma was able to add onto its lead and put the game away.
Devin Gravett and Isaac Derrick led the Warriors with eight points apiece, while Brayden O’Connor scored six. Kole Smith added four, and Colton Weiss tallied three.
“Elma played a solid all-around game,” Sells said. “For the most part, the kids battled, fought, and did some good things as the game went on.”
Rochester (0-9, 0-1 1A Evergreen) will return home to host W.F. West on Monday.
