Rochester Gets off to Sweeping Start

The nerves may have been out in force for the Rochester volleyball team, but the Warriors took care of them along with Eatonville in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 sweep to start the season off.

I think it was a matter of getting the jitters out,” head coach Bridget Morris said. “They were very nervous. First home game, first game of the season, I have five seniors who were like, ‘Oh my god, it’s my last first game.’  I think they just needed to work through those jitters day, and I’m hoping that moving forward we’ll settle in and get back to our game.”

The Warriors started strong at the service line, with Isabella Masias and Natalie Bennett leading the way with five and four aces, respectively.

Morris said Bennett and Kassidy Byrd led the defensive effort at the back, while Masias sent back a pair of blocks.

At the net, Lauren Rotter had a team-high seven kills, while Roisin Stull added four.

Rochester (1-0) is set to come to Centralia for the Centerville Classic, then return to regular-season play against Hoquiam on Monday.
