Runs were at anything but a premium for the Rochester and Hoquiam softball teams on Thursday night, when the Warriors came away with a 23-13 victory over the Grizzlies.
A run was scored in every inning except the bottom of the sixth, and Rochester scored at least two runs in all six innings. The Warriors opened the game with five in the first, four in the second, and six in the third before adding eight more over the next three innings.
Leah Hartley and Arissa LeBaron were charged with 13 runs combined in the circle, but only five of them were charged as earned as Rochester made nine errors in the field. Hoquiam also struggled defensively, committing six errors that allowed the Warriors to score 11 unearned runs.
Hartley hit a two-run home run and drove in another run later in the game, while Addi Morgan logged three extra-base hits and drove in four runs.
“Every ball she hit was laced in the outfield gap,” Warriors head coach Joni Lancaster said of Morgan. “She’s put time in and is believing in herself as much as we believe in her.”
McKenna Vassar drove in three runs on three hits, Piper Quarnstrom drove in two runs on two hits, and Charlie Culp logged three hits, including two doubles, drove in a run, and scored three times.
“We are seeing the ball well right now. Anytime you can put up 20-plus runs, a lot of people had to do a lot of good things,” Lancaster said. “All around team effort on a long, cold night in the harbor.”
The Warriors (5-1, 4-0 1A Evergreen) have now won five in a row, and they’ll look to make it six straight at Mark Morris on Friday.
