Pirates Hold Off Vikings, 48-38
Payton Torrey scored a game-high 17 points, but Adna was able to do enough on offense to beat Mossyrock, 48-38, Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates shot 17 of 44 from the field and forced 17 Viking turnovers in the victory, with Summer White leading the way with 11 points. Brooklyn Loose and Faith Wellander were next with nine points. White also had seven boards.
Up next for the Pirates is a trip to Elma on Tuesday, while the Vikings head to Toledo on the same day.
Tigers’ Defense Shuts Down Willapa Valley
Napavine’s Avery Schutz scored a team-high 15 points and the Tigers forced 26 turnovers in a 51-34 victory over Willapa Valley in a non-league match at home on Saturday.
In what was Napavine’s season opener, the Tigers overcame a poor night of shooting (26%) by using staunch defense against the Vikings from Pacific County. Natalya Marcial and Dani Tupuola each swiped four steals while Jessie McCoy and Grace Gall each had two.
Schutz shot 5 of 11 from the field while hauling down five rebounds, while Hayden Kaut and Tupuola each finished with eight points. McCoy added nine rebounds and Tupuola had seven. Keira O’Neill hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds to go with seven points.
“Good first win against a well-coached Valley program,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “The kids handled the press well today.”
Napavine (1-0 overall) hosts Raymond on Monday.

Pirates’ Offense Outshoots Vikings
Four Adna players scored in double figures as the Pirates outgunned Willapa Valley, 66-52, in a non-league game on Saturday.
Sophomore Braeden Salme had a game-high 16 points, Lane Johnson had 14, Chase Collins 13 and Eli Smith 11 as the Pirates shot 39% from the field and knocked down 11 3-pointers.
Willapa Valley was led by Tyler Adkins’ 16 points, and the Vikings shot 35% from the field as a team.
Adna (1-1 overall) hosts Class 1A Montesano on Tuesday.
Riverhawks Bounce Back With Win Over Mount Vernon Christian
Jake Cournyer led Toledo in scoring once again, and Toledo bounced back from a loss last time out to beat Mount Vernon Christian, 62-55, Saturday afternoon.
The Riverhawks got off to a much stronger start Saturday, scoring 21 points in the opening quarter, and held on to win. Cournyer scored 22 points, but Rogan Stanley also was in the double figures with 15 points.
Toledo will take on Winlock in its next game on Tuesday.

Blazer Women Nab Road Win at Clark
Paige Winter notched a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds and Centralia College women’s basketball came home with a 59-51 road victory over Clark College Saturday in Vancouver.
The Trailblazers were on fire in the first quarter, draining 5 of 10 from long range, then went ice-cold the rest of the way (0-14). But the Blazers had just enough juice to maintain the victory.
Guard Allison DeBerry added 12 points and kept the Blazers under control all night, Centralia College coach Caleb Sells said.
“We were able to win with our defense on a night where points were tough to come by,” Sells said.
The Trailblazers have three home games this week with the annual Blazer Classic running from Friday to Sunday.
Big Second Half Helps Blazer Men Edge Cardinals
Centralia College men’s basketball erupted for 51 second-half points to erase a 12-point halftime deficit and complete a thrilling 87-86 victory over Skagit Valley on Saturday to earn their first win of the season at the Everett Classic.
Adrian Brown went off for a game-high 31 points to help the Trailblazers snap a six-game losing streak to start the season.
Abraham Konan added 23 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Colby White had 10 points, Winlock alum Bryce Cline had eight and W.F. West alum Kayden Kelly had two points, two rebounds and three assists.
Centralia College (1-6 overall) hosts Bellevue on Tuesday.
