W.F. West used their home gym for leverage here on Friday as they placed second in the girls Sub-Regional wrestling tournament.

The Bearcats scored 164 team points and managed to advance seven wrestlers to next week’s Regional round.

Courtney Jones and Xylia Warner were both champions of the sub-district tournament. Jones defeated Hailey Wilson of Aberdeen with a second round pin in their 120 pound title tilt. Warner captured the 140 pound title with a second round pin over Cierra Skelly of Aberdeen.

Elizabeth Patana placed second at 115 pounds for W.F. West and four Bearcats were able to overcome losses in the semifinals in order to claim third place and the coveted final berth to regionals from their weight classifications. Natasha Dugger defeated Analeese McCallister with a pin in their 125-pound bronze match. Paetynn Lopez (155), Gracie Combs (170), and Adia McCann (190) also finished in third place for the Bearcats.

Centralia was able to place third as a team with 106 points. Kupria Lapierre and Angelina Contreras powered that top-three finish with a pair of individual championships.

Lapierre defeated Madeline Carpenter of Hoquiam with a second round pin in their 135-pound match and Angelina Contreras pinned Pearl Cove of Napavine in the third round of their 145-pound bout. Jade Hudson brought home a third place finish for the Tigers in the 100-pound bracket.

Keaton Dowell of Adna brought home the 155-pound title with a second round pin over Dakota Hunsaker of Rochester.

“Keaton is coming off an injury and only got four practices in,” noted Adna coach Craig Farrier in an email. “ Coming back from this injury and winning the Championship just proves her athleticism and confidence in her wrestling.”

Andrea Jones of Toledo placed second at 130 pounds and Pearl Cave of Napavine placed second at 145 pounds.

The Regional tournament will be held on Saturday at Kelso.
