It took a trek to Steilacoom to see two of the best runners in SW Washington – Rainier’s Madison Ingram and Tumwater’s Alexandra Broome – to face off. The senior outlasted the sophomore on Saturday afternoon.

Ingram secured the victory at Saturday’s Fort Steilacoom Invite by beating Broome by 13 seconds in the varsity bronze race. No team scores were tallied, but the Mountaineers showcased how dangerous they could be this fall.

Freshman Komaire Robles secured fifth in 21 minutes, 21.60 seconds while junior Jazzlyn Shumate placed 10th in 21:38.40. The last two in a potential scoring lineup in Alexis Myers and Kinsley Barlow finished inside the top-30.

Centralia’s Elyse O’Dell crossed the finish line in 21:50.30 to place 14th while teammate Esther Hopkins took 42nd. Tumwater had two other runners in the top-40 in Miriam Ore (36th) and Rachel Zahn (38th). Rochester’s Merecedies Dupont snared a 23rd place performance in 22:54.70 and W.F. West’s Loren Kattenbraker was 78th.

On the boys side, the highest finisher was Rainier’s Zach Hamilton taking sixth place in 17:38.80, also in the bronze race. The only other top-20 finisher was Centralia’s Ethan Weiher taking 13th place.

W.F. West freshman Jeffrey Hartwell was 32nd while teammate David Moeckel nabbed 51st place. Centralia had a pair of top-50 placers in Eli Baldwin (36th) and Caden Hackett (47th). Rochester’s top-two finishers in Taydee Evenstar (53rd) and Kian Christiansen (55th) were separated by two seconds.

Marty places highest among local contingent in Oregon

Toledo’s Treyton Marty ran north of 18 minutes to place third in the boys race of Saturday’s Three Course Challenge held on the north side of the Oregon border. The meet had a 4,300-meter easy course plus 5,000-meter moderate and difficult courses.

Marty, a senior, ran the difficult course. The only other top-40 finisher in that race was Tenino’s Tristan Von Bargen placing 36th in 20:23.60. Mossyrock’s Ethan Wedam was its highest finisher on the day, placing 194th.

On the moderate course, Riverhawks freshman registered a sixth place finish in 18:41.20. Tenino had a pair in the top-60 in Justin Schlesner (55th) and Servin Mickelson (58th) plus Adan’s Colton Rind crossed the line in 82nd.

Winlock’s duo of Xavier Sancho-Carrillo and Jacob Trodahl finished in the top-100.

For the girls, the lone two runners that ran the difficult were Tenino’s Brynn Williams and Mossy’s Joan Wedam, separated by three places and roughly six seconds. Tenino’s Samantha Smith tok 72nd, Winlock’s Victoria Sancho and Natalie Cardenas Hernandez finished 79th and 80th, respectively, in the moderate race.

Toledo’s best performance came from Audrey Cooper, notching a 118th place finish.
