A 27-point second quarter helped Onalaska build a lead against Rainier on Saturday, one the Loggers held onto for a 69-56 victory.
The second capped an excellent first half for the Loggers, as they took a 46-22 lead into the halftime break.
“We wanted to come out playing fast,” Onalaska coach Fred Sturza said. “Blaze Underhill and Case McGraw led the charge pushing the ball up and attacking the rim.”
McGraw and Underhill combined to score 41 points in the win, while Cooper Lawrence and Ethan Thayer combined for 15 more.
Jake and Jimmy Meldrum led the comeback effort for the Mountaineers, combining for 39 points. Rainier got within 10 heading into the fourth, but Onalaska was able to slow down the Mountaineer offense in the fourth.
“We were able to get collected and close it out,” Sturza said.
Now winners of two in a row, Onalaska (2-4, 2-4 C2BL) will look to push its win streak to three when it heads to White Pass to face MWP on Friday.
Rainier (5-3, 3-3 C2BL) has now lost three of four after a 4-0 start. The Mountaineers will look to get back on track at home against Eatonville on Monday.
