Mossyrock struck first but Napavine swung right back with a seven-run second inning en route to a 12-2, non-league victory in five innings at home on Thursday.

After a scoreless first inning, Marshall Brockway scored on a tight play at the plate to put the Vikings up 1-0 in the second.  But the Tigers were ready to pounce once they got back to the plate, with five players driving in runs to give Napavine the lead for good.

Demarest was solid both at the plate and on the mound, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the batter’s box. As the starter, Demarest earned the win tossing four innings, striking out five and allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks.

Also collecting multiple hits for the Tigers were Conner Holmes (2 for 4, two runs), Gavin Parker (2 for 4, one RBI) and Austin Chapman ( 2 for 4, two runs).

“I thought our kids played hard,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said. “The top of our lineup hit the ball really well. Ashton threw well. It was nice to stretch him out a bit. Good way to go into spring break.”

Mossyrock was led offensively by first baseman Nayson West, who went 2 for 2 at the plate. Keegan Kolb, Easton Kolb and Andrew Bender all had one hit each as well.

Jake Comer started on the mound for the Vikings, allowing four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts across two innings.

Mossyrock (2-1) next heads to Oakville on Friday. Napavine (5-2) travels east of the mountains to take on Kittitas at noon on April 9.
