Sheets Records Second Hat Trick in a Row in Bearcats Win

Scoring three goals in a matter of minutes of game time, W.F. West girls soccer standout Cameron Sheets recorded her second hat trick in as many games in the Bearcats’ 8-1 win over Rochester Tuesday night in Chehalis.

The senior was again the focal point of the Bearcat attack, also racking up three assists in the win, which was just what W.F. West needed after a bit of a slow start.

“We struggled with our finishing,” Bearcats coach Allen Anderson said. “It took us a little while to relax, we regathered ourselves at halftime and had some good energy in the second half. Our chemistry was better in the midfield that second half.”

The Bearcats struck first in the 15th minute after a goal from Daisy Medel made it 1-0 off an assist from Sheets, but then came a bit of a dry spell. Though W.F. West controlled possession throughout the night, Sheets’ free kick from 35 yards out in the 36th minute doubled the Bearcat lead, and led to a mini-avalanche of scoring from the senior.

Sheets launched another goal through the back of the net off a Maddy Shields pass, knocking in a header to give the Bearcats a 3-0 lead at the halftime break. Then in the first minute of the second half, Sheets made it a hat trick in five minutes of game time, scoring a goal unassisted.

It’s her second hat trick in a row after one last Tuesday against Black Hills in a win.

Kaija Economou added a left-footed goal unassisted in the 54th, Emily Mallonee got in on the action thanks to a nice feed from Lauren Kelley in the 68th, and the Sheets assisted two more goals to Wyatt Rogerson and Kelley in the 70th and 71st minutes.

The Warriors got one back in the 78th thanks to a free kick make from Taylor Staley, but were otherwise stymied by the Bearcat defense.

W.F. West and Rochester will start the second half of league play this Thursday, as the Bearcats look to defeat Shelton for the second time this season at home while the Warriors take on Black Hills in Rochester.
