Sirens: $7,700 worth of headlights stolen, disorderly male tased, criminal trespass citations issued

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Hit-and-run

• At 11:40 a.m. on Dec. 8, a hit-and-run that occurred on private property in the 1100 block of Johnson Road 15 minutes prior was reported. The case is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run involving a gray Dodge pickup that rear-ended another vehicle was reported in the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue just after 4 p.m. on Dec. 8.

• Just before 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 8, police received a report of a hit-and-run to a building in the 1100 block of South Gold Street that occurred sometime earlier that day. A witness gave officers the suspect vehicle’s license plate number. The case is under investigation.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Plum Street and South Tower Avenue just before 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 8.

• A vehicle vs. pedestrian collision was reported at the intersection of West First and North Pearl streets at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. The pedestrian didn’t report any injuries.

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Mellen Street and Old Airport Way at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 9.

• One car reportedly bumped another car in a fast food drive thru in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. on Dec. 9. Officers helped the drivers exchange information.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl and West First streets just after 10:05 a.m. on Dec. 10.

 

Recovered property

• The Flock Security camera system notified officers of a vehicle with a stolen license plate in city limits just after 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 8. An officer located the vehicle at the intersection of northbound Interstate 5 and Harrison Avenue and found the vehicle was not stolen. The officer determined the driver of the vehicle was “unaware that his license plate had been switched with the stolen plate,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The officer recovered the stolen license plate.

 

Traffic problem

• There was a report of a reckless driver squealing their tires and running a stop sign at the intersection of East Reynolds Avenue and North Pearl Street at 12:35 p.m. on Dec. 8. An officer was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly homeless woman was reportedly “causing problems with staff” at a shelter in the 100 block of North Gold Street just before 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 8. Officers responded and found the woman, 27, of Chehalis, had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. She reportedly “took off running,” but officers “caught the female, who then resisted arrest,” according to the Centralia Police Department. She was booked into the Lewis County Jail on the outstanding warrant and was cited for resisting arrest.

 

Assault

• A 63-year-old Centralia woman was arrested in the 2800 block of Russell Road at 5:55 p.m. on Dec. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Camping

• A homeless man found sleeping on the sidewalk in the 100 block of East Pine Street was given a verbal warning for camping within city limits just after 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 9. He was also given shelter and resource information.

• People were reportedly camping in an RV along the roadway at the intersection of East Locust and South Gold streets just after 9:55 a.m. on Dec. 10. An officer contacted the RV’s occupants, gave them resource and shelter information, and gave them a verbal warning for camping within Centralia city limits.

 

Theft

• A theft was reported at an auto parts store in the 200 block of South Pearl Street just after 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 9. Two women “wearing full-length dresses and head scarfs” reportedly stole over $1,400 worth of vehicle headlights and fled in a silver Toyota Sienna van with Oregon license plates. About an hour later, officers received reports of two additional thefts at auto parts stores involving the same suspects, who allegedly stole another $6,300 worth of headlamps. All thefts occurred 1-3 hours before they were reported to the police, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case is under investigation.

• A theft was reported at an outlet store in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 10. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

• A 32-year-old California man was cited for shoplifting from a convenience store in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue just before 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 11. Officers had located the man a few blocks away from the business after an employee reported the theft. The man reportedly refused to give his name, but officers reached out to the Tumwater Police Department, which “assisted with finger printing technology that helped identify the male,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless man was reportedly rummaging through a business’s garbage cans in the 400 block of East Summa Street just after 7:55 a.m. on Dec. 10. He refused to leave when employees asked him to, but left after the incident was reported to police. An officer was unable to locate the man.

• A disorderly male subject at a business in the 400 block of East Summa Street was reportedly “yelling at customers inside the store and refusing to leave” just after 4:50 p.m. on Dec. 10. Officers trespassed the male from the business at the management’s request. The Riverside Fire Authority responded to assist with transporting the male to the hospital due to possible mental health and medical issues.

• Officers were asked to move along two male subjects who were “snooping around the kitchens in the park” in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Dec. 11. One of the male subjects, 28, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding warrant out of King County.

 

Malicious mischief

• A disorderly man was reportedly “yelling at people and using a chair to break a glass apartment-owned table” in the 500 block of North Iron Street at 3:55 p.m. on Dec. 10. The man, 50, of Toledo, was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief and was booked into the Thurston County Jail on an outstanding warrant.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A male subject who was reportedly laying down in the loading area of a business in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Dec. 8 was trespassed from the business for life.

• A male subject who was reportedly doing drugs behind a building in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 8 was trespassed from the property.

• Three subjects reportedly trespassed on property in the 200 block of Southwest Second Street just after 9:55 a.m. on Dec. 9. 

• Subjects in a blue Ford Bronco reportedly trespassed on property in the 1900 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just after 10:20 a.m. on Dec. 9. The subjects were reportedly out of gas.



• A caller requested a welfare check on a male subject who was “just hanging out on the front porch of (the caller’s) house” in the 200 block of Southwest Lewis Street at 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 9. The caller asked for the man to be trespassed from the property. He was cited for criminal trespass at about 10 p.m. that same day after he reportedly returned to the property and knocked on the door.

• Two disorderly customers were trespassed from a business in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue at 2:50 p.m. on Dec. 10. 

 

Disorderly conduct

• A homeless man was reportedly “yelling at bystanders when walking by” on a trail in the 1000 block of Old Airport Way just after 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 8. The reporting party said the man “put finger up at (him) like he was shooting him.” The man’s behavior is reportedly an ongoing issue.

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly trying to get into someone’s vehicle and was yelling at people at the intersection of Southwest James Street and Southwest Pacific Avenue just before 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 8.

• A disorderly subject was reportedly yelling at a store in the 600 block of West Main Street just before 8:35 a.m. on Dec. 9.

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “yelling at passersby” at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest State Avenue just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 9. Someone was reportedly chased with a leafblower during the call. The subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

 

Assault

• A student at a school in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for malicious mischief and third-degree assault after they reportedly assaulted staff and threw things at the principal.

• A woman reportedly stabbed a man in the hand with a knife in the 600 block of West Main Street just after 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 9. The man was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for violation of a protection order and third-degree malicious mischief.

• A disorderly male subject was arrested in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at approximately 5 p.m. on Dec. 10 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault. The subject was tased and received medical treatment.

 

Death

• A death reported in the 200 block of Southwest Riverside Drive at 3:55 p.m. on Dec. 8 is under investigation.

 

Fraud

• A fraudulent check was reported in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just after 5:55 p.m. on Dec. 8. 

 

Theft

• A second-degree theft reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:35 p.m. on Dec. 9 is under investigation.

• A shoplift was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just before 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 9.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at 5:25 p.m. on Dec. 10.

 

Juvenile problem

• Approximately 15 teenagers were reportedly “smoking weed and drinking (and) being loud” at a playground in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just before 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 8.

 

Disputes

• A physical dispute between two male subjects was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at 11:05 a.m. on Dec. 9. Officers were unable to locate the subjects.

• A physical dispute between two homeless men was reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 11:35 a.m. on Dec. 9. A third man was reportedly trying to break them up. None of the involved parties wanted to press charges.

• A physical dispute between a man and a woman was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 5:35 p.m. on Dec. 9.

 

Malicious mischief

• Just after 10:15 a.m. on Dec. 10, a resident of the 10 block of Southwest 12th Street reported someone tagged their fence and left animal feces in their backyard.

 

Welfare check

• A caller requested a welfare check on their elderly male neighbor in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 10.

 

Harassment

• A case of ongoing harassment was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 10.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 154 inmates, including 141 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 114 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
