Sirens: Gas siphoned from church van; Homeless man found hiding in basement of home; DUI arrests

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A homeless woman who was reportedly digging through a dumpster on a business’s property in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue just after 8:40 a.m. on Dec. 15 and refused to leave was trespassed for life from the property.

• A homeless man from Olympia who was reportedly “observed making obscene gestures” was trespassed from college property in the 700 block of West Pear Street just after 10:10 a.m. on Dec. 15.

• A homeless woman from Tacoma was trespassed from a residence in the 900 block of L Street just after 11:35 a.m. on Dec. 16 “after she had made herself unwelcome there,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Two homeless men from Centralia who were found sleeping in a customer-only area of a business in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard were trespassed from the business just before 8:25 a.m. on Dec. 17.

• Officers were asked to move several homeless people in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue along at 8:05 p.m. on Dec. 17 “because patrons of a local tavern were afraid to go outside,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Maple and North Pearl streets just before 9:05 a.m. on Dec. 15. A vehicle reportedly failed to yield right of way to another vehicle while making a left turn. The at-fault driver was issued an infraction.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 500 block of South Pearl Street just after 11:40 a.m. on Dec. 15. One vehicle had reportedly pulled into the path of another vehicle that had the right of way. One vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 300 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue just after 5:05 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison and Belmont avenues just before 1:20 p.m. on Dec. 17. One vehicle reportedly failed to yield right-of-way to the other.

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Kresky Avenue and East Summa Street just after 3:10 p.m. on Dec. 17. One driver had reportedly failed to yield right-of-way to another at an intersection. The at-fault driver was issued an infraction.

 

DUI

• A 24-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 10:55 p.m. on Dec. 15 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI after his vehicle left the roadway and rolled onto its side.

• A 48-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Dec. 16 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at 1:35 a.m. on Dec. 18 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a mailbox and a telephone box was reported in the 100 block of Shirlee Avenue just after 9:40 a.m. on Dec. 17.

• Just after 8:35 p.m. on Dec. 17, a pedestrian in the 600 block of West Main Street reported they were “struck by an unknown make or model blue vehicle that drove away.” Injuries were reported, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Theft

• At 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 15, a flag was reported stolen from the front of a residence in the 2100 block of North Pearl Street sometime overnight.

• Just after 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 16, there was a report that gas had been siphoned out of a van belonging to a church in the 1500 block of South Gold Street. The vehicle’s fuel line had been cut.

 

Burglary

• A 57-year-old homeless man from Centralia was arrested in the 900 block of West Second Street at 8:50 a.m. on Dec. 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary after he was found hiding in a closet in the basement of a home. The man had allegedly forced entry into the basement by damaging a window. He allegedly “confirmed he heard police telling him to come out, but did not comply,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A shoplifting suspect was arrested in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 15 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft.

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Fourth Street just after 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A possible package theft was reported in the 300 block of Southwest 14th Street at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Dec. 16.

• A male subject was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:40 p.m. on Dec. 16 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft.

 

Criminal trespass

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 10:05 a.m. on Dec. 15.

• At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, a caller in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street told officers they “would like the homeless subjects to leave” and asked that they be trespassed from the property.



• One person was trespassed from a property in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 4:50 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A suspicious person reportedly refused to leave a building in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard just after 6:55 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• Two subjects were moved along from the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 7:05 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A male subject was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 16.

• A suspicious male subject who was “just standing inside and nodding off” was removed from a business in the 100 block of South West Interstate Avenue just before 6:40 p.m. on Dec. 16.

• A homeless man who was “dumping all the garbage out” and “making a big mess” on a property in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5 a.m. on Dec. 17 was trespassed from the property.

• A homeless man reportedly trespassed inside a business in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 17.

• A male subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 17.

• A male subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 12:55 a.m. on Dec. 18. The subject was reportedly “aggressive and using profanities.”

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:05 p.m. on Dec. 15.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported on private property in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 8:35 a.m. on Dec. 16.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just before 12:05 p.m. on Dec. 16.

• A vehicle reportedly struck a parked car in the 600 block of Northeast Franklin Avenue just after 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 17. No injuries were reported.

 

Harassment

• At 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 15, a caller in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street reported her ex “is threatening to kick her ass and her neighbor’s ass.” He was reportedly “outside screaming” when the reporting party called the police.

• Just after 5:05 p.m. on Dec. 16, a caller reported a female neighbor was “yelling at” and “threatening to assault” the caller. The caller advised law enforcement the neighbor “is upset with (the caller’s) children and how much noise they make.”

 

Assault

• A subject was arrested in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 4 a.m. on Dec. 16 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

• Just after 10:05 a.m. on Dec. 16, a caller reported “being attacked within the last hour” in the 210 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue.

• A subject was arrested in the 100 block of Southeast Ninth Street at approximately 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

• A 54-year-old male subject was arrested in the 1300 block of Northwest Airport Road just before 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 17 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault. Officers initially responded to a request for medical aid.

 

Disorderly conduct

• Two homeless men were reportedly “yelling” in the 400 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 16. Officers were unable to locate the subjects.

• A male subject was reportedly laying on the porch of an abandoned property in the 600 block of Northwest Prindle Street “screaming and cussing” just after 12:40 p.m. on Dec. 17.

 

Burglary

• A 39-year-old man was arrested in the 600 block of Northwest Prindle Street just after 8:05 p.m. on Dec. 16 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree burglary after he allegedly “kicked in (a) door” to a residence and told the occupant “he was going to ‘blow their brains in.’”

 

Dispute

• A physical domestic dispute was reported in the 1000 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 3 p.m. on Dec. 17.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 158 inmates, including 145 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 120 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
