Sirens: Meth-Fueled Martial Arts; Intoxicated Man Blocks Traffic; Man Refuses to Leave Bathroom; DUI Arrest; Theft; Assault

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Wellness Checks 

• Just after 7:20 a.m. on March 27, officers were asked to check on a man panhandling in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue who appeared to be passed out. The man was seen walking away when officers arrived. 

• Just after 10:35 a.m. on March 27, officers were asked to check on a man who was reportedly “not wearing a shirt (and) doing martial arts on the sidewalk” in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue. When contacted by an officer, the man reportedly “admitted to taking methamphetamines.” 

• At about 7:35 p.m. on March 27, several citizens called to report an intoxicated male who had fallen onto the roadway, causing traffic to stop.  Officers arrived on scene and requested medical aid for the male, who had fallen onto the roadway “due to his level of intoxication.”  While assisting aid units escorted the male to the ambulance, he reportedly “became aggressive toward law enforcement, causing him to be taken to the ground, where he was detained until (he was) safely loaded into the ambulance,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Criminal Trespass 

• Just after 8:30 a.m. on March 27, officers were called about “an ongoing problem of homeless subjects trying to live in the parking lot where employees park” in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue. 

• Just before 8:35 a.m. on March 27, a caller asked officers to “move along” a man found sleeping in the front entrance to a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue. 

• A man was reportedly “taking off his clothes and laying on the concrete in front of an open business” in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue just after 11:05 a.m. on March 27. The business manager told law enforcement they “wanted him moved along to stop scaring the customers.” 

• A homeowner in the 1000 block of Mellen Street asked officers to have a man who was reportedly “in his yard messing with his water hose … moved along” just after 12:05 p.m. on March 27. 

• Just after 12:30 p.m. on March 27, a property owner in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue “requested assistance removing squatters from his newly-acquired property.” The property owner “was advised to go through the proper eviction process.” 

• Vehicles at a “transient encampment” were reportedly “blocking the roadway” in the 1600 block of Central Boulevard just before 10:20 a.m. on March 28. 

• A man reportedly locked himself in the bathroom of a library in the 100 block of South Silver Street at 6:10 p.m. on March 28 and refused to leave after closing time. The man left before officers arrived. 

• A Texas man was trespassed from a business in the 1200 block of Alder Street just after 7:30 p.m. on March 28. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A Longview man was arrested at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5 just before noon on March 27 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct after he allegedly ran into traffic, blocking a car from driving, then pounded on the driver’s window of the car, flipped off the driver and made “obscene gestures” at him. “All of this was unprovoked and occurred in front of an officer,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A business in the 1200 block of Mellen Street asked law enforcement to trespass a disorderly subject from the property just before 4:35 p.m. on March 27. The subject left the scene before officers arrived. 

 

Vehicle Accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision involving a garbage truck was reported at the intersection of West Chestnut and South Pearl streets at 2:55 p.m. on March 27. 

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of East Summa Street and Kresky Avenue just after 2:25 p.m. on March 28. 

 

Physical Control 

• David V. Griffith, 40 of Centralia, was arrested just after 9:55 p.m. on March 27 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly being in physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants after officers found him “passed out at the wheel of his vehicle with drug paraphernalia in plain view.” 

 

DUI 

• Trew A. Irwin, 26 of Centralia, was arrested just after 9:30 p.m. on March 28 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI and reckless driving after he allegedly drove off the roadway in the 1000 block Mellen Street, rolled his vehicle and almost collided into a residence.

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run where a vehicle hit a median and damaged a sign was reported in the 1000 block of West First Street just after 12:55 p.m. on March 28. 

 

Theft 

• A case of third-degree theft was reported in the 1300 block of Lum Road at approximately 4:40 p.m. on March 27. A male suspect reportedly stole merchandise, ran to a car driven by a second suspect and fled the scene. 



 

Fraud 

• Just after 4:55 p.m. on March 27, a business in the 1100 block of North Pearl Street reported a male suspect used fake identification and a fraudulent cashier’s check to purchase a vehicle. 

 

Assault 

• Officers referred fourth-degree assault, domestic violence charges against a Chehalis man accused of assaulting a man in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road to Centralia Municipal Court at 8:45 p.m. on March 27. Officers were unable to locate the suspect at the scene. 

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 900 block of B Street at approximately 5 p.m. on March 28 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Hit-and-Run 

• Just before 12:10 p.m. on March 27, a hit-and-run that occurred in the 200 block of North Market Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. on March 25 was reported. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:55 p.m. on March 28. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 8 p.m. on March 28. 

 

Suspicious Circumstances 

• Just before 1:40 p.m. on March 27, a caller reported “an inflatable canoe that was half-deflated in the river” in the 1500 block of Rice Road. The caller noted “the canoe looked newer so it seemed suspicious to him.” Officers were unable to locate the canoe. 

• A case involving “suspicious circumstances” reported in the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard just after 9:45 p.m. on March 27 is under investigation. 

 

Sexual Misconduct 

• A case of sexual misconduct reported in the 800 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 8:20 a.m. on March 28 is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• A woman who reportedly hit a man with a stick in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 10:15 a.m. on March 28 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. 

 

Juvenile Problem 

• A juvenile who was reportedly “running around in front of the church” in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street “with a BB gun” at approximately 5 p.m. on March 28 was issued a criminal citation. 

 

Theft 

• A case of third-degree theft was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 6:15 p.m. on March 28. 

• Vodka was reported stolen from a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at 10:45 p.m. on March 28. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 155 inmates, including 141 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 111 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.
