Sirens: Meth, money found in vehicle; Officer interrupts theft in progress; Motorist pulls pistol

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Illegal burn

• Just after 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 1, a caller reported two homeless people were making a fire near a dumpster in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue. An officer was unable to locate the suspects. The owner of a nearby business reportedly “advised this was an ongoing issue.”

 

Drug violations

• A 45-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 1:50 p.m. on Jan. 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver after an officer located suspected meth, fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging and other drug paraphernalia in the man’s vehicle. The officer had contacted the man after he saw him passed out in his vehicle with drug paraphernalia, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 47-year-old Yelm man was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office on a possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver charge and other charges after officers located approximately a quarter pound of suspected meth and over $2,600 in cash from his vehicle in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 2. An officer had contacted the man because his vehicle’s trip permit was “expired/altered.” The officer reportedly “observed a container of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle near the driver” during the police contact. The officer reportedly told the driver he had seen the drugs and told him to turn the vehicle off. “Instead, the driver placed the vehicle into gear and began to back up in an attempt to flee,” but stopped when he collided with another vehicle, according to the Centralia Police Department. The man was not booked into the Lewis County Jail due to booking restrictions, according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Disorderly conduct

• Two disorderly subjects were reportedly throwing items at train cars at the intersection of East Locust and South Gold streets at approximately 2 p.m. on Jan. 1. No damage to property was reported. An officer was unable to locate the subjects.

 

Malicious mischief

• A juvenile was referred to Lewis County Juvenile Court for allegedly vandalizing property inside  a residence in the 300 block of Noel Avenue during a verbal dispute reported just before 2:40 p.m. on Jan. 1.

 

Vehicle accident

• A vehicle reportedly crashed into a parked car in the 1000 block of Kresky Avenue just before 3:25 p.m. on Jan. 1. No injuries were reported.

 

Criminal trespass

• A business in the 1100 block of Johnson Road asked officers to trespass subjects camping in a vehicle in the business’s parking lot at 3:55 p.m. on Jan. 1. No one was in the vehicle when an officer arrived at the scene.

• A 45-year-old Toledo man was cited for second-degree criminal trespass in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 1.

• A disorderly male subject who was “screaming and cussing at customers” in a business in the 200 block of South Pearl Street just after 8:40 a.m. on Jan. 2 was trespassed from the business.

 

Assault

• A domestic assault was reported in the 1800 block of North Pearl Street at 11 p.m. on Jan. 1. Both the suspect and the victim left the scene before officers arrived. The victim did not return officers’ phone calls.

• A juvenile accused of assaulting his mother in the 300 block of Courtland Street  at approximately 8 p.m. on Jan. 2 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center.

 

Theft

• A Honda pressure washer valued at $500 was reported stolen from the 900 block of Vienna Street just after 8:25 a.m. on Jan. 2. An officer obtained video footage of the suspect but was unable to locate him. The case is under investigation.

• Just before 4:50 p.m. on Jan. 2, an attempted burglary to a storage unit in the 600 block of North Gold Street that occurred about a week prior was reported.

• Just after 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 2, a customer at a business in the 100 block of West High Street reported his bag containing his wallet, credit cards, ID and currency was stolen while he was in the dressing room. An officer obtained security camera footage of the suspect. The case is under investigation.

• An officer reportedly interrupted a theft in progress at a business in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 2. The officer had reportedly entered the store “for an unrelated purpose” when the store clerk alerted the officer to a male suspect who allegedly just stole alcoholic beverages. “The suspect was exiting the store as the officer (entered),” according to the Centralia Police Department. The officer detained the suspect, a Tukwila man, and retrieved the stolen beverages. The business opted not to press charges.

• At approximately 2:25 p.m. on Jan. 2, medication was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Alder Street sometime over the weekend.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A case of trespassing was reported at the intersection of Northwest Prindle Street and Northwest Cascade Avenue just before 8:40 a.m. on Dec. 29.

• A male subject reportedly tried to get into a building he was trespassed from in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Dec. 29.

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 500 block of Northwest Front Street just after 2:35 a.m. on Dec. 3.

• A subject who was trespassing in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just before 1 p.m. on Dec. 30 was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary.

• A subject was cited for trespassing in the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard at 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 30.

• A subject was cited for violation of a protection order in the 500 block of Northeast Washington Avenue at 11:10 p.m. on Dec. 30.

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 500 block of Northwest Front Street just after 1:35 a.m. on Dec. 31.

• A woman was reportedly going through mailboxes in the 100 block of Southwest Lewis Street at 6:20 a.m. on Dec. 31. The woman was not booked into the Lewis County Jail due to booking restrictions and was released with a citation, according to the Chehalis Police Department. She reportedly returned to a property in the 100 block of Southwest Lewis Street and refused to leave. She left on foot at approximately 7:40 a.m.

• A subject who reportedly tried to open the door to a residence in the 1000 block of Southwest Washington Avenue at 8 a.m. on Dec. 31 and threw things around on the property was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary.

• A female subject was reportedly “camping out” near a building in the 100 block of Southwest William Avenue just after 11:35 a.m. on Dec. 31. The reporting party told officers to “just assume (the subject’s) backpack (is) full of weapons” and was “very upset” with the officer, saying, “we are going to stop this now,” “remove these tweakers,” and “what am I doing wrong? Why will you not remove them?” An officer confirmed the subject, who left the area on foot, was “out looking for her cat again.”

• A subject reportedly trespassed on a property in the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Jan. 1.

• A shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 2.

• A subject reportedly attempted to enter an apartment building he was trespassed from in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just before 3 p.m. on Jan. 2.

• Two subjects reportedly trespassed at a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 2. The subjects reportedly left the sore at 6:50 p.m.

• A subject reportedly broke into a business in the 300 block of Southwest Newaukum Avenue by cutting a fence just after 7 p.m. on Jan. 2.

 

Unlawful weapon display

• At approximately 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 29, a caller reported a male subject had just pulled a 9mm pistol on them from a white Tesla at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way before going northbound on Interstate 5. The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s. Washington State Patrol was advised. 

• Just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 29, a caller reported a male subject had “lifted up his shirt to make sure they knew he had a knife” and “implied threats with the knife” in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue.

 

Animal negligence/abuse



• Just before 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 29, a caller reported four dogs had been left in a light blue Odyssey van in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street for the last two weeks without regular access to food and water. A second caller reported finding one dog in the vehicle at 5:30 p.m. that same day. Another caller reported the four dogs were locked in the vehicle at 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 1.

• A case of animal negligence/abuse reported in the 300 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 2:55 p.m. on Jan. 1 is under investigation.

 

Theft

• Liquor was reported stolen from a store in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 3:40 p.m. on Dec. 29.

• Cigarettes were reported stolen from the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 20. The suspect, a 19-year-old male, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree theft.

• A second-degree theft reported in the 100 block of Southwest Fifth Street at 9:05 a.m. on Dec. 31 is under investigation.

• Several packs of cigarettes and a blue crate were reported stolen from a closed business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 8 a.m. on Jan. 1. Several employees reportedly chased the suspect, described as a 25-year-old white male, but did not catch him.

• A second-degree theft reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 1 is under investigation.

• A purse was reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 4:50 p.m. on Jan. 1.

 

Drug violations

• A juvenile subject was cited for unlawful possession of alcohol in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 29. The case was initially reported as a possible DUI, with the reporting party saying they saw the vehicle swerving on Interstate 5 and saw the vehicle’s occupants throw a glass bottle at a semi truck in a parking lot.

• A woman found passed out inside a vehicle parked in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 6:35 p.m. on Dec. 31 was cited for possession of meth.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A caller reported a “disturbance” in a vehicle in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 1:55 a.m. on Dec. 30. An officer confirmed there was “no disturbance,” just a male subject sleeping in his vehicle.

• A woman was reportedly “walking around the parking lot with a lighter” in the 10 block of Northwest Median Street just after 2 p.m. on Dec. 30. The reporting party said he “has gas cans in the back of his pickup and it made him nervous.”

• Just after noon on Dec. 31, a caller reported his neighbor was “smoking marijuana” and said the smoke was coming into his apartment. He reported “him and his mother were feeling a little ‘funny’” but declined aid. The officer advised the reporting party that smoking inside a residence is legal and told him to take the issue up with his landlord.

• A male subject was reportedly “going car to car, trying the doors and looking inside” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 5:55 a.m. on Jan. 2.

• At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Jan. 3, a “very angry reporting party” told officers an ATM in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue “withdrew $500 from his account but didn’t give him the money.” The caller was reportedly “extremely upset” and “advised he was trying not to go ‘berserk.’”

 

Disorderly conduct

• A woman was reportedly “yelling” and “looking through the windows of a gray building” in the 100 block of Southwest William Avenue at 12:55 p.m. on Dec. 30. She was reportedly looking for her cat on the reporting party’s property. The reporting party agreed to work with the woman to return her cat.

• A woman reportedly yelled at an employee at a business in the 10 block of Northeast Median Street then crashed a birthday party being held in the business’s party room just before 3:55 p.m. on Dec. 30.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A four-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Pacific Avenue and Northwest Front Street just before 2:20 a.m. on Dec. 30. One driver was reportedly going the wrong way and collided with another vehicle head-on, causing damage to two other vehicles. One woman was injured in the collision. The Chehalis Police Department did not release information on her condition on Wednesday.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Northeast Terrace Road and Northeast Washington Avenue on Dec. 29 was reported just before 8:35 a.m. on Dec. 31.

• Just after 4:50 p.m. on Jan. 1, a caller reported a vehicle crashed through a fence and damaged a pole at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue the day prior. No injuries were reported.

• A driver reported knee pain after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision at the Exit 77 onramp to southbound Interstate 5 at 5 p.m. on Jan. 2.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 200 block of Northwest Park Street at approximately 9 a.m. on Dec. 30.

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:20 p.m. on Dec. 31 is under investigation.

 

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:50 p.m. on Dec. 30 is under investigation.

• A male subject was arrested in the 10 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

• Just after 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 2, a caller reported a subject had “just pushed (the caller’s) pregnant friend up against the wall and slapped (her)” in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street. The subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault.

 

Shooting complaints

• A possible single gunshot was reportedly heard in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just before 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 30.

• “Fire shots” were reported in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 8:40 p.m. on Dec. 31. When “asked if they were fireworks,” the reporting party “insisted” the sounds were “fire shots, aka gunshots.”

 

Missing person

A mother reported her 18-year-old son was missing from the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just before 7:10 p.m. on Dec. 30. The mother reported her son had left a few hours prior with a few bags. An officer found the subject “ordering a pizza” at approximately 7:40 p.m. “He advised me he was fine and I allowed him to use my phone to call his mother and advise her as well,” the officer reported.

 

Fraud

• A case of “non-specific fraud” reported in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard just after noon on Jan. 2 is under investigation.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 153 inmates, including 140 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 113 were reported male and 27 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
